Duisburg (dpa / lnw) – The fire brigade stopped the search with divers for a 33-year-old man in a lake in Duisburg late Wednesday afternoon. He slipped off an air mattress on Tuesday evening, fell into Lake Masuria and has been missing ever since. The search was interrupted on Wednesday night because of darkness. Diving squadrons of the DLRG associations from Duisburg and the Rhein-Kreis Neuss as well as the fire brigade had to stop the operation on the second day at around 5.30 p.m. due to poor visibility, as the fire brigade announced. Further diving operations are not planned.
A police spokeswoman said on Wednesday morning that the water was up to eleven meters deep. The man was with relatives at the lake and probably drank alcohol. Swimming is forbidden at Lake Masuria. A lake may look harmless, but it could become a death trap, said the police spokeswoman. The daily high for NRW was measured in Duisburg on Tuesday at 39.5 degrees Celsius.
