Stiftung Warentest tests 40 current smartphones. The test winners cost more than 1000 euros, the price tip only 350 euros. Good devices are also available for as little as 200 euros.
For some users it simply has to be the best smartphone, many pay attention to a top price-performance ratio, others are looking for a good device that is also as cheap as possible. In the most recent overview by Stiftung Warentest, with 40 models tested this year, there is a suitable mobile phone for every requirement.
The current number 1 is the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra with a quality rating of 1.7. It has a very good 6.8-inch huge display, strong camera equipment and also scores well in terms of basic functions, handling, endurance and stability. However, buyers have to dig deep into their pockets for this, the top smartphone costs an average of 1250 euros in online retail.
You have to shell out around 200 euros less for the Samsung Galaxy S22, which takes second place with a quality rating of 1.8. At 6.1 inches, its screen is significantly smaller and the battery performance is only satisfactory. Otherwise, the device was rated at least well in all other categories.
The simple Samsung Galaxy S22 also made it onto the product test podium. However, it has to share third place with the Google Pixel 6 and the Oppo Find X5 Pro, which also received an overall rating of 1.9.
The Galaxy S22 has the best camera of the three, but it doesn’t last as long as its two competitors. The Find X5 Pro shows the greatest endurance, but its handling was not entirely convincing. The Pixel 6 didn’t score top in any category, but it consistently received good or very good marks.
The price tip from Stiftung Warentest is the Honor 50. Although it only costs 350 euros on average, it was able to achieve the fourth best rating with an overall rating of 2.0. The testers praised “one of the best batteries in the test” and the display also proved to be very good. The Honor 50 can keep up with the test winners in the other categories as well, only its camera equipment is only satisfactory.
The cheapest device with a good camera result is the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE, which received a quality rating of 2.2. At 330 euros, it is even cheaper than the Honor 50 and also offers excellent endurance. Its small weakness is the handling, which the product test only rated “satisfactory”.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 11, which is available for just under 200 euros, but still achieved an overall rating of 2.2, comes from the same company. Buyers only have to make compromises in the camera equipment and handling, which were only rated “satisfactory”. In return, the device shines with a very good display and the best battery performance of all test candidates.
Even cheaper, but with a quality rating of 2.5 just about good is the Samsung Galaxy A13 for a mere 185 euros. Display, endurance, handling and stability are good, but apart from the cameras, the basic functions are only satisfactory. They include voice quality, network sensitivity, WLAN connection, computing power and location.
