Maastricht/Aachen (dpa/lnw) – There is a positive signal for the future of Maastricht-Aachen Airport. On Friday evening, the Dutch province of Limburg spoke out in favor of retaining the regional airport in the border region, which is located near the Dutch city. A cooperation between the two shareholders is planned for continued operation, the ANP news agency reported. These are the province and the operator of Schiphol Airport. It is about “a marriage with Schiphol”, which must now be prepared.
Investments must be made in the airport. Opponents criticize the location near residential areas and consider the airport dispensable because of its proximity to other airports, especially in Liège, Belgium.
