Essen (dpa / lnw) – Contrary to what was initially reported by the police, the SUVs last manipulated in Essen apparently only had the air deflated from the tires. The authorities first said that a group had punctured the car tires. “Following the initial investigations, we now have to correct that so far none of the tires on the 16 vehicles affected have been punctured,” the police said. The tires in Essen’s Bredeney district were probably deflated on Wednesday night by manipulating the valves, it said. Several media had previously reported about it.

A group of environmental activists has claimed responsibility for the actions online. She explains the action by saying that SUVs are particularly harmful to the climate. The police initially did not comment on this.

According to the police, it is determined because of damage to property and dangerous intervention in road traffic. Because the acts may be politically motivated, state security took over the investigation. Similar incidents had already occurred in Essen-Heidhausen in September.
