Cologne (dpa / lnw) – With more cars and staff, the railway industry wants to arm itself for the expected travel on the long Pentecost weekend. It is to be expected that many day-trippers will use the newly introduced 9-euro ticket to make their way to tourist destinations, said the Rhineland and Westphalia-Lippe (NVR and NWL) local transport services and the Rhine-Ruhr transport association (VRR) on Friday With. On central routes, the trains are therefore “en route with the maximum possible number of seats”.

This affects, among other things, the RE1 and RE6 (Hamm-Essen-Cologne), RE13 (Düsseldorf-Venlo) or RE48 (Wuppertal-Bonn) lines. Nevertheless, it will certainly be full on certain trains and at some stations. In such cases, travelers should be patient and understanding, the companies appealed.

Things could also get tight on some motorways over Pentecost. According to the traffic center, kilometers of traffic jams formed on several routes as early as Friday afternoon, for example on the A1 and the A3 near Cologne. According to the ADAC, from Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, more short vacationers from NRW should head towards the North and Baltic Sea coasts or the Netherlands – and come back on Monday afternoon.

There could be particular problems on the A40: the important east-west connection in the Ruhr area will be completely blocked from Friday evening due to construction work between the Duisburg-Rheinhausen and ports junctions in the direction of Essen. According to the project management company Deges, there is only one lane in the opposite direction to Venlo.
