Emsdetten (dpa / lnw) – Emsdetten station in Münsterland is “NRW Hiking Station of the Year 2022”. State Transport Minister Oliver Krischer will present the award on October 21 during a visit to the Steinfurt district, as the joint campaign mobil.nrw announced. The train station is around 30 kilometers north of Münster on the state border with Lower Saxony.
Several railway lines lead to Emsdetten and thus connect the hiking region, which includes the Emsdettener Venn moorland and through which the Ems flows. A little further north are the western foothills of the Teutoburg Forest.
Places that are considered the ideal starting point for short hikes or hikes lasting several days through the region are marked as NRW hiking stations. In 2020, Sondern on Biggesee received the plaque, in 2019 Overath in Bergisches Land and in 2018 Winterberg.
