Non-ferrous metal thieves have stolen an unusually large amount of copper cable in the Rostock region. As a spokesman for the federal police said on Monday, professional perpetrators were probably at work in both cases last weekend. A total of more than 7.5 kilometers of cable has disappeared since Friday, and the perpetrators must have used vans or even a truck to remove it because of the weight. The federal police are hoping for clues to suspicious vehicles. The total damage is estimated at around 30,000 euros.
A railway construction site in the direction of the seaport, which can be reached via Kessin, and several construction trailers on the site of the Rostock railway power plant not far from the main station are affected. Employees reported the first theft to the police on Sunday, the larger theft of six kilometers of cable from drums at the traction power station on Monday morning.
