Magdeburg/Halle (dpa/sa) – The 9-euro monthly ticket is in demand in Saxony-Anhalt’s cities. Within the first week of sales, 15,500 tickets were sold at the counters and machines of the Magdeburg public transport company in Magdeburg, as a company spokesman announced on Tuesday. It is noticeable that many passengers bought the ticket in the houses, in the customer center or at one of the partner agencies, such as lottery shops or gas stations. Fewer bought the ticket at one of the ticket machines. Magdeburg passengers cannot yet purchase it in the smartphone apps.
In Halle, almost 30,000 tickets were sold by Hallesche Verkehrs-AG within the first seven days. In addition to the personal points of sale, customers could also buy the ticket there using one of the apps.
According to the latest sales figures from the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV), around seven million special tickets have been sold across Germany. The figures refer to all associations and companies as well as to sales online, at counters or at machines.
From Wednesday, the ticket is valid throughout Germany for journeys on buses, trams and regional trains in 2nd class. It is offered for the months of June, July and August – one ticket is issued for each month. The cheap ticket is a reaction to the sharp rise in energy costs and is intended to relieve consumers.
