Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Saxony-Anhalt’s AfD parliamentary group has failed again in an attempt to fill the post of vice president of the state parliament. Member of Parliament Hans-Thomas Tillschneider stood for election on Friday and clearly missed the required majority. In the secret ballot, Tillschneider received 21 yes votes, 64 deputies voted against him, and there was one abstention.
Since the state elections in the summer of last year, the AfD parliamentary group has repeatedly tried to have representatives of their parliamentary group elected deputy president of the state parliament. Applicants Matthias Büttner from Staßfurt, Hagen Kohl and Christian Hecht as well as Matthias Lieschke failed. The AfD has 23 of the 97 members of parliament and is therefore dependent on support from other groups.
