Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Around 12,000 people took to the streets in Saxony-Anhalt on Monday against the high prices, the Ukraine war and the energy policy of the federal government. A spokeswoman for the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday that there were a total of 42 meetings across the country. It was primarily about “measures to combat the corona pandemic, the current Russia-Ukraine conflict and the current inflation,” said the spokeswoman.
Most of the participants were around 2,200 in Magdeburg, the spokeswoman said. “At most meetings, the number of participants was in the two to three-digit range.” According to the ministry, the demos remained largely trouble-free. The police only initiated a nationwide investigation into the use of license plates of unconstitutional organizations.
According to the police, the registrations for the demonstrations came both from the left spectrum and from those alliances that had already taken to the streets against the Corona policy in winter. According to media reports, more than 10,000 demonstrators took to the streets in Saxony-Anhalt last Monday.
