Halle (dpa/sa) – After a dead baby was found at a recycling center in Halle in 2021, the mother had to answer to the court for manslaughter. The trial begins on February 27 in the Halle district court, a spokesman said on Friday. According to the indictment, the woman is said to have given birth to a healthy girl alone in her apartment on December 21, 2021 and left the newborn wrapped in a T-shirt near the recycling center on the same day. She was aware that the baby would not survive there for long and could not have been found there by accident.

The baby was found dead by a walker six days later. According to the information, the public prosecutor’s office assumes that the 38-year-old has reduced criminal responsibility. Investigators searched for the baby’s initially unknown mother for almost a year.

The accused had already confessed to the allegations, it said. According to the court spokesman, if she is convicted of manslaughter, she faces at least five years in prison.
