Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – In Saxony-Anhalt, primary and special schools can in future refrain from the classic half-year reports for first and second graders and offer alternatives. The Ministry of Education announced on Tuesday in Magdeburg that uniform and standardized protocols of the learning development talks could be used across the country. A form of report or an assessment of the learning behavior and the technical skills by means of crosses in a table are possible. The alternatives to the half-year report are already possible for the coming half-year reports at the beginning of February.

“The introduction is linked to the goal of relieving teachers in primary schools in a timely and long-term manner,” said the Ministry of Education. Nevertheless, the interests of the students and legal guardians are taken into account after an appropriate assessment of the performance.

The Ministry emphasized that the introduction of the half-yearly balance sheet is voluntary and will probably be evaluated after two years. The schools make the decision after consultation with the parent councils and a resolution of the overall conference.

As the Ministry of Education further announced, the initiative to simplify the half-year reports came from the main teachers’ staff council, the primary school association and the Education and Science Union (GEW).
