Halle (dpa/sa) – According to a study, every third company in Saxony-Anhalt has already been affected by a cyber attack. Almost three quarters of the cases are due to data theft via so-called phishing mails, said a spokeswoman for Commerzbank on Tuesday at the presentation of the study commissioned by the bank.
The number of attacks has increased in the past year, it said. However, only one in seven of the companies affected suffered damage. The damage ranged from financial loss and image damage to the loss of customer data and espionage. According to the information, financial losses resulted, for example, from ransom demands paid for the activation of attacked servers or from intercepted and changed invoices.
Commerzbank had commissioned the study from the opinion research institute Ipsos. Nationwide, more than 2,500 companies with an annual turnover of up to 15 million euros were surveyed by telephone. 100 companies were surveyed in Saxony-Anhalt.
