Self-tests were still part of everyday life in 2022, just like masks and quarantine. In January, a particularly large number of people were vaccinated in Saxony-Anhalt. What did the country buy in the wake of the corona pandemic and how much did it all cost?

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Saxony-Anhalt procured more than 14.6 million corona self-tests for daycare centers, schools and state ministries this year. According to the House of Health Minister Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD), around 23.5 million euros were spent on this by mid-December. There is currently a small stock of around 500,000 tests, which will continue to be distributed to daycare centers and ministries, said a spokeswoman. The year before, 35.7 million corona self-tests had been bought for more than 65 million euros. This is the Corona balance sheet for 2022:

vaccinations

In January 2022, by far the most corona vaccinations were administered in Saxony-Anhalt. There were more than 400,000. In February and April it was more than 150,000. In the other months, the number was well below 100,000. In Saxony-Anhalt, around 75 percent have been vaccinated at least once.

The Ministry of Health cannot say how much vaccine has been destroyed. A spokeswoman said that the vaccine logistics had been transferred to the standard supply of pharmaceutical wholesalers. The vaccination centers were supplied by the pharmacy system. That’s why you can’t give “precise information about the expiration of the vaccine”.

masks

In total, the country procured just over 3 million mouth and nose protection masks and 1 million FFP2 masks this year. A total of around 308,000 euros was spent on this. The masks went in particular to schools, facilities for the disabled and state ministries. The existing supply will continue to be distributed as needed. In Saxony-Anhalt, the mask requirement on local buses and trains was dropped at the beginning of December.

indemnities

Tens of thousands of Saxony-Anhalt received compensation for loss of earnings as part of their isolation under the Infection Protection Act. According to the Ministry of Health, compensation was paid to more than 70,000 Saxony-Anhalt by mid-December this year. In 2021, around 57,000 applications for compensation under the Infection Protection Act had been approved by mid-December. According to the state administration office, around 121 million euros in compensation for loss of earnings have been paid out in Saxony-Anhalt since the beginning of the corona pandemic.
