The employer-friendly Initiative Neue Soziale Marktwirtschaft looked at and compared the educational landscape of the federal states from day-care centers to universities. Saxony-Anhalt has lost one place and is second to last.
Magdeburg/Berlin (dpa/sa) – Saxony-Anhalt has slipped to the penultimate place in a current state comparison in terms of education. The employer-friendly Initiative Neue Soziale Marktwirtschaft (INSM) sees the state in the new education monitor in the penultimate place, ahead of Bremen at the bottom. Saxony-Anhalt also came in 15th when it came to digitization. Saxony is in first place.
The study confirms Saxony-Anhalt’s strengths in school quality and funding infrastructure. On average, the students achieved high levels of competence in mathematics and natural sciences. Many children took advantage of all-day offers in day-care centers and elementary schools. However, mathematically, there would be many children for one caregiver or teacher.
The very high proportion of older teachers was highlighted negatively. The age structure is very unbalanced. Only a few schools are also equipped with fast WLAN, it said. As a result, digital media are used less frequently in school lessons than in many other federal states.
Relatively few men and women completed an engineering degree at the universities in Saxony-Anhalt. In 2020, their share of 13.5 percent was below the national average of 17.9 percent, the study said. At 8.4 percent, the proportion of graduates in mathematics, natural sciences and computer science was also lower than the nationwide figure of 14.2 percent. In addition, the sum of third-party funds raised per professorship is low.
