Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – The elephant bull Moyo from the Magdeburg Zoo has moved to a flat share in France. As the Magdeburg Zoo announced on Wednesday, the nine-year-old heavyweight was loaded into a transport container at the beginning of the week. The destination was the zoo in Thoiry west of Paris, which the animal reached on Tuesday. In order to make the journey there easier for the young bull, Moyo’s trusted caretaker, among others, accompanied the elephant transport. He and a colleague will support the carers there in the first few days as they settle into their new home.
The young bull will in future live with Jabu, who is the same age, and 42-year-old Ben. “Even in the wild, young bull elephants join old, experienced bulls in order to learn from them. We are therefore optimistic that the community will work,” the zoo said. The spokeswoman for the Magdeburg Zoo cited increasing arguments between Moyo and his older brother about the ranking as the reason for the bull elephant’s move.
