Halle (dpa/sa) – According to statistics, the number of reported severely disabled people in Saxony-Anhalt is declining. At the end of 2021, 174,140 people nationwide had a severely disabled person’s pass, which attested to a degree of disability of 50 and more, the State Statistical Office announced on Monday in Halle. This corresponds to a decrease of around 2.4 percent compared to 2019.
100,810 and thus more than half of the severely disabled people had reached the age of 65, as it was said. More than two percent (4350) of the people affected were children and young people under the age of 18.
According to the information, 28.5 percent of the severely disabled had an impairment of the function of internal organs or organ systems. More than 26 percent had paraplegia, a mental disability or an addiction. One in ten had lost limbs or significant limitations in legs and arms. Around ten percent of people with a severely disabled pass also had impairments to their senses, such as speech and hearing impairments, visual impairments or blindness. Multiple restrictions are common.
