Magdeburg/Hannover (dpa/sa) – In the forthcoming collective bargaining talks in Saxony-Anhalt, IG Metall is demanding a wage increase of eight percent for the metal and electrical industry. Apprentices should also earn more accordingly. The union announced that the wage commission for the metal and electrical industry had agreed on this on Thursday in Magdeburg. The goal is a contract term of twelve months. The IG Metall federal board had recommended 7 to 8 percent more money for the around 3.9 million employees in the core industry.
“Many companies are still doing well despite various social crises,” explained IG Metall district manager Thorsten Gröger. “Good quarterly results and record dividend payments give no reason for false restraint in this wage round. In the face of the specter of inflation, employees deserve fair compensation.”
