Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – According to the industry association VdW, the municipal housing companies in Saxony-Anhalt will not initially restrict the supply of hot water. “At the moment it is inconceivable for us as housing companies to turn off the hot water for our tenants,” said Saxony-Anhalt’s association director Jens Zillmann on Monday of the German Press Agency in Magdeburg, with a view to the debate about high energy prices. The Association of the Housing Industry (VdW) represents almost 80 municipal housing companies nationwide.

In the neighboring state of Saxony, the Dippoldiswalde housing cooperative in the Saxon Switzerland-Osterzgebirge district had previously announced that the supply of hot water would be restricted in the approximately 600 apartments of the cooperative due to drastically increased energy prices. According to the regulation, hot water remains available in the morning, at noon and in the evening. At night and in the meantime, however, the water comes out cold from the tap. In addition, the heating is not turned on until September. “It’s not about annoying the tenants, but about adjusting to what we might not be able to pay for next year,” said board member Falk Kühn-Meisegeier.
