Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – In view of rising energy costs, the left calls for a protective shield for municipal utilities and municipal energy suppliers in Saxony-Anhalt. The supply of electricity, water and heating cannot be managed for the people in the state without public utilities and municipal suppliers, said Left Party leader Eva von Angern on Wednesday. The suppliers must be protected from financial emergencies. “The state government must now put up a protective shield to enable suppliers to plan with long-term security,” said von Angern.
On Tuesday, Saxony-Anhalt’s cities and municipalities had already written to Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) asking for support for municipal companies in the energy and housing industries. The municipalities fear that the energy and housing companies will find themselves in financial distress due to rent arrears or the failure to pay operating costs, which could result in major liquidity problems.
