Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – The resistance against the temporary weekly additional lesson for teachers in Saxony-Anhalt’s schools is being continued in the state parliament. The Left Group is putting the issue on the agenda of Parliament for the coming week. With an application, she wants to get the state parliament to ask the government to withdraw the plan.
“A complete restart under changed conditions and with the direct participation of Parliament is required,” the application says. A forum is required in which all participants “look for solutions together on an equal footing, with sufficient time and preparation” and make their recommendations available to the state government and the state parliament.
At the beginning of this week, several thousand people protested in Halle and Magdeburg that teachers should stand in front of the class for an extra hour a week. The Education and Science Union (GEW) had called for rallies.
With the additional hour per week, the country is reacting to the shortage of teachers and the high level of class cancellations. For primary school teachers, the new regulation means 28 instead of the previous 27 teaching hours, for secondary school and grammar school teachers 26 instead of 25 teaching hours per week. The so-called anticipatory lesson should apply until the 2027/28 school year.
The additional hour per week is either remunerated or can be saved in a working time account. According to the state government, the schools are missing around 1,000 teachers, with the plan for the additional hour to be compensated for around half.
