Leipzig (dpa / sn) – The Verdi union has called for a warning strike at Leipzig Airport. According to a spokesman, the employees in the airport security area are to stop working from Thursday at 3 p.m. The warning strike will last until 6 a.m. on Saturday. According to an airport spokesman, the effects on air traffic are still unclear. Verdi pointed out that aid deliveries that go out into the world from Leipzig/Halle are not affected by the strike measures. Work is also to be stopped at larger airports such as Frankfurt or Munich on Friday.
According to Verdi, aviation security employees have been demanding an increase in the surcharges for night, public holiday and weekend work for years, as well as better regulations for paying overtime. Collective bargaining has been held since January 2020. The union also points to inflation. “Many no longer know how to pay their rent and fill the fridge. They need significantly more money to make a living,” said union secretary Stefan Hilbig. Employers are required to reward good work.
