Well-grown, richly decorated: For most people, a Christmas tree is a part of Christmas. The festival is still a long way off for many, the state parliament has already made preparations.

Magdeburg/Ballenstedt (dpa/sa) – The thermometer shows values ??around 30 degrees, but in some places Christmas is already being thought of. The state parliament in Saxony-Anhalt has placed an order for three Christmas trees. Two of the trees are said to be five meters tall, one three and a half meters, said a spokeswoman on request. When choosing the right fir, an even, radial crown formation and the branches play a major role. The Christmas trees should be set up in front of the state parliament building, in the inner courtyard and in the restaurant hall.

But everyone else can also look forward to a decent tree. “There are beautifully grown Christmas trees this year,” said Hardi Busche from the Harzer Tanne near Ballenstedt, where the order from the state parliament was received. Larger failures are not to be expected despite the persistent drought. From the point of view of the Natural Christmas Tree Association, things are looking good this year. The particularly popular Nordmann fir has a vertical root that is just as long as the tree itself, explained association manager Saskia Blümel. Larger trees would therefore have no problem getting to the water in deeper layers. With freshly planted firs, however, the risk is greater.
