Ilsenburg (dpa/sa) – According to IG Metall, more than 250 employees stopped work in steel industry companies in Ilsenburg (Harz district) on Tuesday. The union had called on workers from the Ilsenburger Grobblech, VPS and SZFG companies to go on a warning strike. Production stood still for four hours between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., IG Metall Halberstadt announced.
On Monday, after the third round of collective bargaining, the union announced warning strikes lasting several hours before negotiations are to resume on Friday. The Steel Employers’ Association had increased its offer and now offered 4.7 percent more money with a term of the collective agreement of 21 months. In the collective bargaining round, the union is demanding 8.2 percent more money for the 8,000 employees in the East German steel industry.
