Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – The persistent drought is causing the water levels in Saxony-Anhalt to drop. The flood forecast center said on Thursday that the rivers were below the average low water discharge. “We’re consistently below that at the moment.” However, historical low water discharges have not yet been reached.
On Wednesday, the Saale ferry near Barby (Salzlandkreis) stopped operating due to low water. However, despite the drought, the water levels of the major rivers are at the same level as in previous years. Nevertheless, the need for rain remains high for bodies of water, meadows and arable land, but also for groundwater.
