Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – In Saxony-Anhalt, the group “Last Generation” has carried out ten climate protest actions so far. Interior Minister Tamara Zieschang (CDU) said on Wednesday in the state parliament in Magdeburg. Six of the protest actions involved manipulation of gas or oil supply lines, two posters and two road blockages.
Zieschang emphasized: “The state government condemns the commission of crimes to achieve political goals. This applies to blockades of freeways as well as to the disruption of air or rail traffic or other criminal actions.”
In particular, it is unacceptable if traffic jams are intentionally caused and rescue services are obstructed, thereby endangering people’s health and lives. The interior ministers of the federal states agree that such forms of protest are not covered by freedom of assembly. The Minister of the Interior emphasized that further illegal actions must be prevented as effectively as possible and that criminal offenses must be consistently sanctioned.
The AfD parliamentary group had requested a current debate on the climate protests. Matthias Büttner from Stassfurt spoke of “snotty rascals spoiled by wealth” who blocked the streets. “And now they’re trying to blackmail us here in Germany.” Büttner demanded: “We finally have to show a clear edge against these climate extremists.”
