Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Saxony-Anhalt’s Interior Minister Tamara Zieschang (CDU) has spoken out in favor of the federal government coordinating commitments for refugee admission programs with the federal states in the future. The CDU politician announced on Wednesday in Magdeburg that she wants to propose to the cabinet that a corresponding Federal Council initiative be launched. In the future, the approval of the Federal Council will be required for new federal admission programs. With this measure, Zieschang wants to ensure that the absorption capacity of the municipalities is better taken into account.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, around 29,000 war refugees from Ukraine have been admitted to Saxony-Anhalt this year. In addition, more than 5,000 asylum seekers were admitted by the beginning of December. The rural districts and urban districts can send newly arriving war refugees to other federal states because the admission quota has been exceeded.
