Leipzig (dpa / sn) – Deutsche Bahn (DB) will move a section of the train route between Cottbus and Görlitz from 2025. This is being done on behalf of Lausitz Energie Bergbau AG (LEAG) because of the expansion of the Reichwalde opencast mine to the east, Deutsche Bahn announced on Monday. A new route between Weißwasser and Rietschen (Görlitz district) must be completed by 2027. The existing line will be replaced by a new 13-kilometer line and equipped with modern signaling technology.
In addition, the Schleife station (district of Görlitz) is being rebuilt. In the future, two trains will be able to enter the station at the same time. The electronic systems there will be modernized and the platforms will also be accessible without steps for travelers with restricted mobility. No information was given about the costs.
