Görlitz (dpa/sn) – In the district elections on Sunday, the AfD in the Görlitz district achieved its best result, but still only came in second. CDU candidate Stephan Meyer got the most votes. With 46.3 percent, however, he missed the absolute majority, so that a second round of voting is required on July 3rd. 35.5 percent of voters voted for the AfD member of parliament Sebastian Wippel. After counting the votes in 383 out of 388 communities in Saxony, that was the best result for his party in the district elections on Sunday, according to an overview by the State Statistical Office in the evening.

Overall, the citizens in the easternmost district of Saxony had four candidates to choose from on Sunday. More than 208,000 people were called to vote there, almost half of them (49.4 percent) actually voted.
