The Blue Wonder is an important traffic axis in Dresden. The bridge over the Elbe will now be closed for around a month during the holidays. There are detours for motorists.
Dresden (dpa/sn) – Drivers will have to be prepared for diversions in the coming weeks due to the closure of the Blue Wonder in Dresden. The complete closure of the bridge over the Elbe was planned from Monday at 5 a.m., as a spokeswoman for the city administration announced. If you want to cross the Elbe, you have to take a detour via the Waldschlösschen Bridge. Alternatively, the next possible Elbe crossing is the Sachsenbrücke in Pirna. Pedestrians could continue to walk across the bridge on the sidewalk on the downstream side, it said.
Some bus lines of the Dresden Transport Company (DVB) would also have to be diverted during this time. DVB announced on its website that people could therefore use the neighboring Niederpoyritz – Laubegast ferry for free.
The city spokeswoman said it was difficult to estimate the extent of the traffic disruption caused by the closure of the building in the coming weeks up to August 19. “We hope that the summer holiday season and the timely and comprehensive information will keep it within limits.”
The reason for the closure is various renovation work on the blue-painted, listed steel bridge. It has been under repair since February. The city estimated the total cost of the bridge work at 2.5 million euros.
