Chemnitz (dpa / sn) – The public prosecutor’s office in Chemnitz has brought charges against a 37-year-old man on suspicion of rape and particularly serious robbery and damage to property. The accused is said to have broken into the balcony of a 73-year-old’s apartment at the end of November last year and then raped her, the public prosecutor said on Friday.

He is said to have searched the apartment for valuables, threatened the woman with a screwdriver and scissors and forced her to give him money, jewelry and other items. The police arrested the man shortly after the crime. He has been in custody since then, according to the information. The trial is to take place before the district court in Chemnitz. A date for the main hearing has not yet been set.
