Moritzburg (dpa/sn) – The traditional winter exhibition “Three hazelnuts for Cinderella” for the cult film of the same name opened at Moritzburg Castle near Dresden on Saturday morning. The first guests were already waiting in front of the large gate, later numerous people streamed down the long driveway to the baroque hunting lodge in the middle of a pond. “It’s very busy,” said a museum worker. The presentation makes the world of the well-known fairy tale film come alive until February 28, 2023.
In addition to recreated film scenes, multimedia and installations, around 20 original costumes from the Prague Barrandov Studios and Potsdam-Babelsberg and film props can be seen. This also includes the wedding dress of Cinderella actress Libuše Šafránková (1953-2021) and the gala carriage preserved in Saxony’s state stud, in which the king and queen drove through the Moritzburg winter landscape 50 years ago.
The baroque palace of Saxony-Elector August the Strong (1670-1733) was a filming location of the German-Czech co-production from 1972/1973, which became a cult and has been part of the Christmas television program for over 40 years. Since 2011, fans and other visitors have been able to immerse themselves in the scenery of the fairy tale classic film adaptation every winter and from the stepmother’s kitchen, where doves peck “the good ones in the potty, the bad ones in the crop”, through the stable of Cinderella’s horse Nicholas to the walk ballroom.
