Dresden (dpa/sn) – Three climate activists occupied the Golden Rider in Dresden for an hour on Saturday. Two climbed onto the base of the equestrian monument at noon and spread banners, the third stands in front of the monument, the police said. According to the officials, no one was stuck, after almost an hour the police broke up the action of the group “Last Generation” after a passer-by drew their attention to it.
As the activists explained on Twitter, the Golden Rider stands as a symbol for the cultural assets that embody the cohesion of a society. However, in a world full of instability, future generations could no longer adequately take care of these cultural assets. That’s why the activists climbed the statue to remind the federal government of its duty to protect livelihoods.
