Schierke/Thale (dpa/sa) – The wood artist Bernd Winter from the Harz Mountains created ice sculptures in Schierke (Harz district). By hand, with the help of chainsaws, chisels and milling drills, he showed the audience on Saturday how unique works can be created from an initially inconspicuous block of ice. It took around three hours. Among other things, a sculpture was created, resembling a large fish.
The artist is best known for his works in wood. Carving with a chain saw sounds rather unusual, but you can use the right technique to work solid wood in such a way that figures, animals and sculptures are created, he explains on his website. For his three latest ice creations in Schierke, he procured special ice for sculptures from Poland.
