Görlitz (dpa/sn) – After a break of more than ten years, there will be a new edition of the Silesian Music Festival from September 17th. The festival with concerts in Görlitz and three Polish cities has the motto “Music builds bridges”. The organizers announced on Wednesday that 16 events are planned until October 3rd. The setting for the opening concert is the Church of Peace in Jawor (Jawor), Poland, where the chamber orchestra Virtuosi Saxoniae and the Saxon Vocal Ensemble will perform under the direction of star trumpeter Ludwig Güttler.
According to festival director Stephan Rauhut, an initiative group was founded in 2019 to revive the Silesian Music Festivals. It has been said that its origins date back to 1830. With multiple interruptions, for example due to the world wars, it was last held every two years between 1996 and 2009. This year’s new edition seamlessly follows the dense program of the Lausitz Festival, which ends after three weeks on September 16 in Forst in Brandenburg.
The venues for the 33rd Silesian Music Festival include Castle Fürstenstein in Waldenburg (Walbrzych), Poland, the Kulturforum Görlitz Synagogue and the small hall of the Stadthalle, which opened in 1910, in Neissestadt. At the time, the concert hall was built primarily for the Silesian Music Festival. Matthias Eisenberg will give two concerts on the sun organ in Görlitz’s Peterskirche. The well-known musician is one of the initiators for the new edition of the binational music festival, which is financed from public funds and with the support of sponsors.
