Dresden (dpa / sn) – With a view to the lack of young people, the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Saxony has been encouraging schools to take up tourism professions for two years. From September there will be all-day offers for children and young people from the 5th grade in 36 schools across the country, as Dehoga general manager Axel Klein said on Monday. The interest is great. Their number has more than tripled. “With the new school year we have almost 400 to 500 mini chefs.”

It’s about getting young people interested in the profession. The program goes beyond shopping at the butcher, baker or gardener and cooking. “They also learn everything from table setting to napkin folding and rules of conduct” and showed their parents at home what they could do. According to Klein, with 20 students there are usually three to four internships in the kitchen or service.
