Dresden (dpa / sn) – In the coming months, construction workers will climb onto the roof of Dresden Central Station to renew large parts. For this purpose, a 42 meter high mobile crane will be set up on Wiener Platz, Deutsche Bahn announced on Monday. A further 14,000 square meters of the membrane roof are to be replaced this year.

In addition, so-called skylights will be installed – steel and glass covers on which snow and broken ice are to be deposited in order to ensure good drainage of meltwater and rainwater. Each of them can carry a load of up to 33 tons, it said. In July, the construction work will then switch from the north to the south side of the station.

According to the information, a roof area of ??around 33,000 square meters will be renewed by 2025. The costs were estimated at around 44 million euros. Last year, around 7,500 square meters of new roofing made of fiberglass membrane were fitted on the east side.
