Weißwasser (dpa/sn) – The extensive EU funding program for Saxon lignite regions is taking concrete shape. With the help of the Just Transition Fund (JTF) program, funding totaling 645 million euros will be available until the end of 2027, said Saxony’s Economics Minister Martin Dulig on Monday at the start of the JTF conference in Weißwasser. The program and the thematic framework were to be presented to the around 280 conference participants.
375 million euros are to be used in the Lusatian mining area, 200 million in the Central German mining area and 70 million in Chemnitz. “With the co-financing from private and state funds, more than one billion euros in total investments are available,” emphasized the SPD politician.
A good 70 percent of the funds flow into economic development and into future-oriented and sustainable energy and raw material supplies. The measures are intended to contribute to actively supporting the regional economy in transition and to expanding competitiveness and thus to maintaining or creating new qualified jobs.
