Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – According to an evaluation by the commercial health insurance company (KKH), significantly more people have been suffering from depression in North Rhine-Westphalia for years. According to data from the health insurance company, the diagnoses of recurring depression in particular have risen sharply – by a good 61 percent from 2011 to 2021 to around 14,200 cases. In the case of depressive episodes, i.e. shorter one-time depressive phases, the KKH recorded a ten-year increase of almost 23 percent to around 40,000 in the same period.
Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses that can have a major impact on life. Depressive episodes can be triggered by experiences and fears of loss as a result of political, social and private crises. The KKH has around 315,000 insured persons in NRW.
