Dresden (dpa / sn) – The flu epidemic in Saxony is ebbing away. According to the latest weekly report from the State Research Institute (LUA) on Friday, 176 fewer infections were registered in the last week of January than in the previous week with 229. The number of influenza detections also fell further, by almost a quarter.
According to the LUA, the seasonal flu wave in Germany, as defined by the Robert Koch Institute, ended in the first week of January. According to the LUA, however, the activity of acute respiratory diseases increased again nationwide and is at the upper level of the time before the corona pandemic. This is mainly caused by RS viruses, seasonal corona viruses, rhinoviruses and human metapneumovirus.
This winter, according to the LUA report, 113 people nationwide died from influenza in Bavaria. There were 58 men and 55 women between the ages of 34 and 97. The total number of infections since October 2022 has been 29,162. With almost a third (28 percent), the age group of 25 to 49 year olds is most affected.
