Treuen (dpa/sn) – The Forest Youth Games have started their 23rd edition in Saxony. At the opening on Friday, around 90 girls and boys from three elementary schools and one special needs school demonstrated their knowledge of the forest in thetreuen forest adventure park in Vogtland. The forest is an ideal extracurricular place of learning, explained Minister of Education Christian Piwarz (CDU) at the opening. He covers all subjects and strengthens the cohesion of the class.
“A day together in the forest raises awareness of sustainability, biodiversity and climate protection and the urgency of these tasks,” emphasized Forest Minister Wolfram Günther (Greens). “Here it becomes visible and tangible why we are converting our forests into climate-stable, species-rich mixed forests.”
Since 1999 the Forest Youth Games have been held in Saxony. According to the information, around 6,000 students in grades three, four and six use this offer every year. 62 events are planned in Bavaria by the end of the month.
