Moritzburg (dpa/sn) – By 2025, the Moritzburg State Stud is to have a new large riding hall of international standard with 800 seats in the stands plus a riding and feed hall. Construction work began on Thursday with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony. The Free State is investing around 24 million euros, as Finance Minister Hartmut Vorjohann (CDU) said according to the announcement. “Best conditions are our goal for horse and human at the Moritzburg State Stud.”
According to the ministry, an “ebb and flow system” will also be installed as a riding surface in the hall with around 6,000 square meters of usable area, with which moisture can be removed from the sand and added to it for constant ground conditions. A photovoltaic system on the roof should supply the state stud with solar energy.
The state-owned stud farm, founded in 1828, has been modernized since 2009. A total of almost 30 million euros are to be invested. Horse breeding in the Moritzburg stables goes back to a decision by the Saxon King Anton the Kind. Since then, mainly heavy warmbloods, but also riding horses have been bred. In Moritzburg, performance tests for stallions and mares are conducted and grooms are trained. The state stud farm is known nationally because of the stallion parades in autumn with tens of thousands of guests from home and abroad every year.
