Dresden (dpa/sn) – Many viral infections in children led to significantly more applications for child sickness benefit from the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) in Saxony in 2022 than in previous years. More than 27,400 applications are a record, the cash register announced on Saturday. In 2021, 21,700 applications were made, in 2020 there were 16,900.
It was noticeable that the illness season lasted for almost all months last year, TK said. Normally, parents take child sickness benefit, especially in the cold season from autumn to spring.
Saxony’s numbers are in line with the national trend. Across Germany, applications for child sickness benefit from TK policyholders skyrocketed to around 660,000. In 2021 it was still 511,000.
