Despite increased costs in many areas of life, Thuringia did not save on lottery games in 2022. On the contrary: the State Lottery posted record proceeds.
Suhl (dpa/th) – The Thuringians spent more money on lottery games in 2022 and gave the state lottery record sales. The proceeds climbed by a good 2 percent to 176.5 million euros compared to 2021, Lotto Thüringen announced on Saturday in Suhl. The previous record was 174.5 million euros and was from 2020.
There were a total of 21 big winners last year, including three new Lotto millionaires. The highest single win was achieved in “Spiel 77” with around 3.6 million euros. With three big wins, lottery players in the district of Greiz had the biggest lucky streak in a regional comparison. A total of around 83.5 million euros were paid out as winnings, it said.
The state budget also benefits from the fact that many Thuringians enjoy gambling. According to the information, Lotto Thüringen transferred around 44 million euros to the state treasury last year. In addition, there are millions more to support projects oriented towards the common good and as sponsorship – for example in the areas of monument protection, top and popular sports and culture. According to the information, the German Foundation for Monument Protection and the Classic Foundation Weimar will benefit from this.
The most popular lottery in Thuringia is the classic 6 out of 49. According to the information, the most turnover was achieved here, followed by the Eurojackpot. In both cases, the probability of winning the highest prize class is a good 1 in 139,800,000. The state lottery now generates sales of around 14.2 million euros on the Internet. The introduction of digital scratch cards contributed to the plus of almost one million euros compared to the previous year.
