Freiberg (dpa/sn) – The mayor of Augustusburg, Dirk Neubauer (independent) clearly won first place in the district election in the district of Central Saxony, but missed the absolute majority. He got 41.3 percent of the votes on Sunday, as the State Statistical Office informed about the preliminary result. CDU candidate Sven Liebhauser came second with 30.0 percent, just ahead of AfD man Rolf Weigand (28.7 percent). Weigand is vice president of his party’s parliamentary group.
Neubauer has also made a name for himself nationwide as a publicist, and his candidacy is supported by the SPD, the Left and the Greens. Since no candidate has won more than 50 percent of the votes, a second round of voting is required on July 3rd. Then a simple majority is enough to become district administrator in the district of Mittelsachsen.
