Annaberg-Buchholz (dpa/sn) – The CDU asserted itself in the district election in the Erzgebirge district, but the absolute majority remained unattainable for candidate Rico Anton on Sunday. 26.3 percent of voters voted for the 44-year-old member of parliament, as the State Statistical Office informed of the preliminary election results. Volker Weber (free voters) came in second with 20.0 percent, the AfD candidate Torsten Gahler came third (17.8 percent).
There were a total of seven candidates in the Erzgebirge district election. A second round of voting is now required on July 3rd. The 65-year-old incumbent Frank Vogel (CDU), previously also President of the Saxon District Council, has not re-run.
