Leipzig (dpa / sn) – Henry Graichen (CDU) remains district administrator in the district of Leipzig. The incumbent prevailed in the election on Sunday with 69.9 percent of the votes and thus cracked the required absolute majority, as the State Statistical Office announced in the evening on the preliminary election result. The AfD member of parliament Jörg Dornau (19.4 percent) and the left candidate Denny Trölenberg (10.7 percent) landed well behind Graichen. The Greens had announced before the election that they would support incumbent Graichen. The respective candidates were looked at and supported by those who most agreed with the goals of the Greens, said Greens country chief Norman Volger in advance. Voter turnout in the district was 45.9 percent.
