Görlitz/Bautzen (dpa/sn) – The writer Lukas Rietzschel is looking forward to the performance of his play “Resistance” at the German-Sorbian People’s Theater in Bautzen. This Friday the piece will be performed live on a stage in front of an audience for the first time. “It will also be a premiere for me,” said the Görlitz-based author of the German Press Agency. He had written the commissioned work by the Leipzig theater for the local chamber stage. Due to Corona, however, it was only premiered as a theater film in 2021. In Bautzen in East Saxony, it is now coming out on the big stage, “in a region where it could act,” as Rietzschel said.
In concentrated dialogues and with great accuracy, “Resistance” draws the picture of a society whose substance has cracks that are getting bigger, according to the theater’s announcement. The Bautzen production is directed by Jan Jochymski as a guest. According to his own statements, Lukas Rietzschel only took part in a conception test. Otherwise he did not participate in the implementation of his text template. “It was important to me to get it out of hand,” said the author. He would like to see greater national awareness of theater productions in rural areas. “Great work is being done here.”
