Dresden (dpa / sn) – Saxon politicians visited elementary schools for the nationwide reading day and read to the students. Both Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) and Minister of Education Christian Piwarz (CDU) took part in the reading initiative on Friday morning.
As reported by the Saxon Ministry of Education, Piwarz read from the books “Drachenmeister” and “Verflixt – ein nix” to pupils of the 92nd elementary school “An der Aue” in Dresden. Piwarz explained that it is becoming increasingly difficult to get children interested in reading, especially with digital media. According to the State Chancellery, Kretschmer, who attended the “Haselbachtal” primary school, read to first and third graders and then visited their new school building.
The Reading Day – a joint initiative of the “Zeit”, the Reading Foundation and the Deutsche Bahn Foundation – aims to encourage reading from a young age.
