Dresden (dpa / sn) – The security authorities are currently counting around 2,500 people on the scene of the so-called Reich citizens and self-government in Saxony. That is 600 more than at the end of 2021, a year earlier there were 1050. “That is more than a doubling in a short time – and the highest value since this spectrum was placed under the surveillance of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution at the end of 2016,” explained left-wing politician Kerstin Köditz on Friday in Dresden. The Ministry of the Interior had given the number in an answer to a small question from the members of the state parliament. About 70 of them are assigned to the right-wing extremist scene.
Köditz had also asked about crimes committed by “Reich citizens”. According to the Ministry of Justice, there was a reference to this scene in 589 investigations last year. Coercion (133 cases), driving without a license and insult (33 cases each) and resistance to law enforcement officers (28 cases), threats and fraud (24 cases each) were particularly common. There were also a number of bodily injuries, violations of the Weapons and Narcotics Acts and individual cases of money laundering, extortion, deprivation of liberty and arson.
“Reich citizens” do not recognize the Federal Republic as a state. For example, they deny the legitimacy of the Basic Law, authorities and courts and do not accept official decisions.
